Can I Request a Male or Female Massage Therapist? Well, Of Course!
Not everyone feels equally comfortable being massaged by a therapist of the opposite sex. Even though the image of massage therapy as somehow illicit or obscene died once people realized that massage is beneficial to physical and emotional health, some of us still prefer having a therapist of our own sex pefrorm the work.
Sometimes, the reverse is true—women with very sore or stiff muscles may feel a male massage therapist will have more strength and can therefore do a better job of breaking up the muscle knots, or a man may feel more comfortable having a woman work on his body than another man.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this, so don’t feel embarrassed about specifying a male or female massage therapist when you book your massage therapy appointment. You have a perfect right to have your preference acknowledged and respected, and no one should take offense at your request.
If someone does, find another spa!
