Facials and Vigorous Spa Treatments: Not a Good Idea Right Before a Big Event

Everyone wants to look and feel at their best for the big events in life. Weddings, important social gatherings or business meetings, class reunions and other major life markers make us want to do everything we can to appear as attractive as humanly possible!

The tendency is to think that if we schedule the appointments we need in order to do this, we should schedule them as close to the upcoming event as possible, too. This is definitely NOT a good idea!

For one thing, spa treatments include massage, and while massage remedies a number of physical ills, it also frees the toxins in your system so that they can be flushed out. This is why massage therapists always advocate drinking a lot of water after a massage–water helps in this flushing out process.

But for a day or so during this toxin flushing process, you may not feel as good as you’re going to feel a couple of days later. If you have your massage the day before your event, you may actually feel a little worse than you’d like!

The same sort of thing is true of a vigorous facial. One of the reasons that vigorous facials work is that they remove a good bit of the outer layer of your skin. While the ultimate results may be great, you may have a day or so of walking around with an unnaturally pink face.

So schedule your massage and vigorous facial about a week before your event in order to make sure that you look your very best on the big day!
