Hot Stone Massage: Everyone Should Do it Once

Getting a massage is therapeutic and very relaxing.  But, you have not had the ultimate massage experience until you have tried a hot stone massage.

A hot stone massage lives up to its name in that smooth, hot stones are used to massage the body.  The stone likely used is called basalt, a black volcanic rock.  The basalt absorbs and keeps heat well.

Where a hand massage requires oils and the bare hands of a experienced therapist, a hot stone massage requires smooth, heated rocks to perform a deep and relaxing massage.

The stones are heated in 120 to 150 degree water or an electric heating device prior to your arrival.  The therapist holds the rocks to ensure that you are able to tolerate the heat of the stones.  The therapist will then work the heated stones through your tight and tense muscles, removing the tension.  Sometimes, the stones are placed in specific areas down the middle of your back to improve the energy in your body.

Because of the preparation time and the length of time the massage runs, expect to pay $125, or higher.  But, you’ll walk out feeling like a million bucks!
